DDoS – Distributed Denial of Service: Threats to Business Activity on Internet
Denial of Service (DoS) is typical cyber-internet attack by flooding the targeted server or resource (applications) with so many fake requests in attempt to overload systems, by doing so the normal user’s requests traffic would be affected because servers or systems overloaded.
D(istributed)-DoS is called when the incoming traffic flooding the victim coming from many different sources (distributed), from many ip address source, from many locations in the world. This will make difficulty to stop the attack, by blocking a single source is just not enough because the other still continue flooding traffic to their target.
DoS attacks are illegal, and categorize as criminal activity on several countries, however firstly the businesses which doing business on online-internet will loss their big business opportunity and also their reputation. Many organizations realize that DDoS threats should receive higher priority in their security planning.
To prevent DDoS require a holistic solution that can effectively distinguish between legitimate and illegitimate traffic. Firewall and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) were effectively protect the network, however not from DDoS. To have such a DDoS system protection would require big investment.
Anti DDoS feature is one benefit to the user of CLOUD, because standard/basic anti DDoS already included to their service. The standard feature will automatically prevent their hosting user from common or typical DDoS attack. Which mean that their server/network are basically protected from DDOS when published to internet.
To have more advance and more comprehensive DDoS protection on the cloud, user can subscribe to advanced services with additional monthly cost fee (or subscription fee).
Some of Anti DDos service on public cloud providers are as follows.
